Hello and welcome to my site. My name is Margaret and I am an 18 year old college freshman in North Carolina.I have, fortunately, been blessed with a lovely and mostly streight smile for the better part of my life. But now, at 18, I can feel my teeth crowding. Its nothing serious, but I fear the day I wake up, look in the mirror and see a meat grinder for a mouth. Now is the time to do something about it- before it gets too bad and while my parents are still willing to foot the bill. So I went to my orthodontist and made plans to get INVISALIGNS. This site will be my online tooth tracking journal, which I hope will help others when they are making decisions about their orthadontia. I am in no way affiliated with the Invisalign company or with an orthadontists office, so this will be a plain, unbiased recount of my exerperinces.
You may wonder why I chose invisaligns. Well, from what I can tell they are clear and mostly invisable. You take them out to eat and floss and brush, which means no restrictions on the food you eat. Otherwise they have to be on your teeth 24-7; just like real braces they work on constant pressure. Mainly, I am just a vain person who didnt want to have big metal train tracks across my smile.
The downsides to the invisaligns, from what I read, is that YOU are responsable for your progress- if you take them out you slow it down. Also, they are more expensive. Ive noticed that most of them cost about $5000 dollars (mine were 4800 w/ insurance) where as regular braces would have cost me closer to 3000 dollars. Well, not me persay, my parents.
But, as I said above, I am very shallow and I wanted to do it the easiest way I could.
My fears at present are: 1) that they will look strange, like I am wearing a mouth guard.
2) that they will make me lisp, something that would be HIGHLY adgitating for someone who likes to talk as much as I do and 3) that they will make me lose weight- Many people tend to stop snacking do to the utter inconvenience of having to take the retainers in and out.For some this is a plus- for a 110lb weakling like myself it is a big minus.
